Dear Friends,

Every year I sit and write a New Year's letter to our loyal clients and team. I like to reflect on the past year and share my thoughts on what we accomplished and our upcoming year's goals. However, this time I'm reflecting on the past 17 years.

As I sit in my living room, watching the snowfall writing my message to you, I'm filled with an abundance of emotions.

Thinking back to the beginning, I was 23 years old with an idea. When I started my business, I barely had the internet as a resource. I went to my local bookstore and bought "Everything You Need To Know About Starting a Small Business." My fingertips turned pink from highlighting the book! I wrote my short business plan on graph paper and presented it to my parents.

The day before I opened, I cashed in all my change to buy a hot towel warmer. It paid off because my first studio was wildly successful. I was even written up in NAILS magazine, a trendy industry publication.

The Beauty Lounge community grew year after year. And like fine wine, it kept getting better. We've been referred to as modern-day Steel Magnolias and neighborhood gem.

You've spent some of your most precious milestones with us. And you've been there for mine. Most of you remember my grandma helping in the early days, Hugo when he was a puppy, and my wedding day.

While I did your nails, you did so much more for me. Your kindness and commitment to supporting a women-owned small business inspired me to keep doing better - for my team, the community, family, and myself.

They say your purpose is when your gifts, experience, and passion come together. For me, that has been community involvement and entrepreneurship.

Last year I went back to school for business coaching. I started a side business called Goal.Get.Her Inc, which offers an affordable, realistic & professional coaching approach to help small business owners like myself. Along with developing a new business, I was appointed to 1st Ward Alderman, and  I will be running in 2021 to finish out the two-year term.

I love this quote from David Allen "You can do anything, but you cannot do everything".

Therefore, I will be stepping down as owner of The Beauty Lounge. Judith B. will be fully absorbing the nail business, and I couldn't be happier for her! Judith B. Salon has heart, soul, and strong ties to the community. It's the perfect place for The Beauty Lounge crew!

This message is to my team. Natalia, Brenda, and Jen, no owner in the entire world, could have been luckier than me. Thank you.

I'm ecstatic about the next chapter in my career and life. It's time to develop and grow another company and work hard to serve the community that has given me so much.

Being a small business owner isn't a job; it's a lifestyle; it's part of who you are. The Beauty Lounge will always be part of me, we grew up together, and I couldn't be more grateful.

Thank you for your loyalty over the past 17 years.

Please raise a glass of bubbly (I know you have some:) and join me in a virtual toast—

CHEERS to strong women, glitter bomb nails, botox parties, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and mostly, friendship!

With all the love in my heart,

Jennifer
